When Is The Best Time To See The Whirlpool?

Spring Tide Dates at the Corryvreckan Whirlpool 2017

In the following Tides Chart the * symbol denotes the relative strength of tide in the Gulf of Corryvreckan when the tidal range is 3.7 metres or more. Wind strength, wind direction, atmospheric pressure, whether ebb or flood tide, and the hour of the tide also effect what you will see on the day. No two days or hours are the same. The greatest tidal range does not necessarily produce the best effects in the Gulf. It is all in the hands of the Calliach ( hag ) of the Whirlpool.

* denotes tidal rise at Oban of 3.7 to 3.9 metres
** denotes tidal rise at Oban of 3.9 to 4.0 metres
*** denotes tidal rise at Oban of 4.0 to 4.2 metres
**** denotes tidal rise at Oban of 4.2 to 4.4 metres
